Noah’s Ark was established in 2000 to serve the locality of Ovenden, expanding over recent years to cover the whole of Calderdale. It was built by the community, for the community, with the aim of improving user’s mental, emotional and financial wellbeing. We are now the largest voluntary-sector provider of therapeutic services in Calderdale, working in partnership with Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group and Calderdale Council, to provide a safe haven and place of hope for the whole community.
We exist as a place of welcome where clients may find the support to harness their inner resources to overcome the problems they may face; providing counselling, a money advice service and various other resources to support our clients. Through our work we aim to promote self-worth, freedom from negative coping strategies and resilience; practising from a place of hope which allows clients to harness their own strengths and abilities to reach their goals.
As a charity, working on a donation basis with clients, we are able to work with clients who may otherwise be unable to access counselling services, particularly the medium-long term interventions which we specialise in. We are passionate about making a difference to the mental health of our community: by giving all clients access to a multi-skilled team of counsellors, we aim to work in a way which best supports our clients as individuals rather than a ‘one size fits all’ model of therapy. Our ethos and model of work in unique within the Calderdale area.
We offer individual counselling services for adults and young people, as well as family therapy. For children we offer the Rainbows peer support programme for those experiencing loss from a number of sites, as well as providing 1:1 therapeutic play. We also offer outreach work from a number of sites and schools within the Calderdale area.
